501(c)ollege Certificate Programs

The Alliance for Nonprofit Excellence and the School of Business at Christian Brothers University will jointly issue a certificate of completion for the following four new 501(c)ollege Certificate Programs. Individuals who complete more than 80 hours of training in these certificate programs are eligible to receive graduate credit at CBU. Learn more about CBU's graduate program here.

Certificate in Frameworks of Nonprofit Excellence

This two-year certificate program offers nonprofit organizations a comprehensive course of study on the key concepts of nonprofit management, including new research and best practices on running a high impact organization.  Organizations registering for this certificate program are encouraged to bring up to three people to each session.

Core courses to be taken in the first year include:
Organizational Leadership 101
Board Governance 101
Ethical Leadership
Planning and Evaluation 101
Making the Message Work: Strategic Communications 101
Fund Development 101
Human Resources 101
Nonprofit Finance 101
Advocacy and Public Policy

During the second year of the program, organizations have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in various areas of nonprofit management by selecting up to five elective courses within the following core areas of management (Alliance staff will consult with organizations in making these selections): board governance, finance, fund development, human resources, organizational leadership, planning and evaluation, and strategic communications.

Cost:    $995 for members; $1,500 for non-members

Through assistance from the Kemmons Wilson Family Foundation, organizations meeting eligibility criteria are eligible to apply for partial scholarships to participate in the Frameworks certificate program.  Up to five scholarships will be awarded. Certificate in Finance

The Certificate in Finance will be awarded to individuals who complete five courses in this core area.  This program provides participants with an understanding of the principal concepts of nonprofit finance.  To qualify for the certificate of completion, individuals must take three required courses and select two elective half-day courses. 

Courses within the core area of finance include:
Nonprofit Finance 101 (Required)

Nonprofit Financial Structure: Designing Revenue and Business Models That Work (Required) Understanding Nonprofit Accounting

Certificate in Human Resources Management

The Certificate in Human Resource Management will be awarded to individuals who complete five courses in this core area.  This program will provide participants with an overview of significant HR practices.  To qualify for the certificate, individuals must take Human Resources 101 and four other courses.

The Certificate in Fund Development will be awarded to individuals who complete five courses in this core area.  This program will provide an understanding of fundraising and the various approaches to securing resources for a nonprofit organization.  To qualify for the certificate, individuals must take two required courses and three other elective courses.
